We've taken the Greener Footprints pledge and agree to help achieve the vision of a thriving net zero-carbon and nature-rich Herefordshire by 2030. This is an ongoing process and involves looking hard at our business practices to see where we can make positive changes.
We've firstly made sure that our office is well insulated and draught proofed to reduce energy used in heating, it has south facing windows so benefits from solar gain when the sun is out. Our office electricity is 100% from renewable sources supplied by bulb energy. Bulb also supply gas for the office heating which is 100% carbon neutral as emissions are offset by supporting carbon reduction projects.
We're lucky to be able to work from home so have zero emissions from commuting. We think it's important to meet customers face to face, and particularly like to visit premises to get a feel for the business. However, we will try to keep this to a minimum and use public transport or combine journeys where possible. We're always happy to speak on the phone or video chat. We're looking into carbon offsetting our small amount of business car use.
We host many of our customers websites on our own servers in partnership with UK based hosting providers. Web hosting, and the internet in general, has been described as 'the biggest coal fired machine in the world' due to the large amount of power consumed in running and cooling data centres. We're working with our current hosting providers to ensure they can guarantee they use electricity from 100% renewable sources. If that isn't possible we'll move to providers that can.
We turn off all computers, chargers and lights out of working hours. We only print out emails and documents when absolutely necessary and reuse then recycle all office paper.
